A 600-tonne, eight-storey container school has recently been turned into an international training centre for six thousand school children from many countries. These bright, air-conditioned, mobile classrooms are environmentally friendly, run on renewable energy and feature a modular design with space-efficient designs. The school is located at the bottom of a low, sandy valley. It is built on a reclaimed industrial site and is surrounded by a lush green garden. The building comprises a modular building with eight classrooms, a large classroom area, a canteen and a lounge area. The building is protected by the local authority.

The building is facilitated by two containers, each housing thirty to forty children. Over two hundred staff and parents work in partnership with the company in charge of the day-to-day running of the school. These people live in their temporary accommodation and commute to the school on foot and by bus. In rural areas the school staff uses mobile vans to transport children to and from the destination.

The students are provided with a flexible learning environment that meets their individual needs. They have free choice over the type of curriculum they wish to follow and the number of hours of study that they require each week. The academic facilities provided are world-class and include state of the art technology equipment and top-of-the-range classrooms. The only disadvantage is that the classrooms in rural areas may be crowded. This may result in a reduction in the number of students per class.

The container school has a small on-site library. This library space is dedicated to maintaining a collection of reference material. This may be a result of the need to store computer equipment or perhaps an attempt to conserve space. The school also uses portable bookcases as its primary storage facility

The students on a shipping container school move from classroom to classroom. Most schools are provided with small classrooms in which to hold the various modules. A small number of students may be accommodated in one large classroom. The module may be divided into smaller units where each sub Module will consist of a topic. The topics are normally divided into sections which can include Geography, History, English and Math.

The Remote Areas Program offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on skills development through training sessions. The training session usually lasts for an hour. The skill development workshop may take place at the end of each day or at the beginning of the day. It may be arranged to meet the requirements of the particular child attending the school. Some container schools arrange for after-care training sessions.

The logistics department at the container school programmes explains how shipping containers are procured. Once the container is filled up, it is transported via rail or road to the destination site. At the destination site the container is unloaded and transported using forklifts. At the end of the day the container is unpacked. The logistics staff at the container school provides services such as collecting payment, collecting accounts, distributing tuition fees and delivering diplomas. The main aim of the education is to impart the skills required for long-term sustainable development in the area of environmental management.

As per the ICM School's website, shipping container classrooms are strategically located near industrial hubs and ports so that lessons can be easily carried out by local workers. The programme incorporates a complete range of science and environment based courses. These classes help students learn about the management of the human-made resources and enhance their practical and strategic thinking skills. The program helps the participants to work as teams and build up organizational skills.
