Gartner Security hosts an annual summit dedicated to cybersecurity. Gartner security summits are a gathering of premier vendors dealing with risk management, security and business continuity management. The Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit 2018 will provide you insights regarding how to guide your company to a secure digital future. The summit agenda will focus on the latest threats, new security architectures, governance strategies and the new role of Chief Information Security Officer.

During the 2017 summit, information regarding cybersecurity trends was raised. The following five trends were seen as emerging over 2017/2018 period.

Skills gap in cybersecurity

As the focuson application and cybersecurity increases, the skill sets necessary are becoming scarcer. The cybersecurity industryconstantly needs new skills as cybersecurity moves into data governance and data classes. Companies will generate more data over the next three to five years and is a security aspect that companies can no longer ignore. The constant changes in cybersecurity will mean a steady stream of new skills in data science and analytics is needed. People who are able to adapt skills will be key in the workforce to tackle the next phase of security.

Top priority becomes Cloud security

The Cloud environment is increasing in popularity with more companies moving process there. The environment has become a security target and opening enterprises to risks. The cloud environment is at risk of becoming unstable and unsecure due to increased demands by organizations. Security experts all agree, the security of cloud will come down to a simple who can we trust and who can we not trust. Companies should apply more rigor to their security protocols that manage their cloud environment, such as security guidelines for public and private use.

Companies should shift their focus

Previously, companies focused their cybersecurity resources on prevention. However, the resources, monetary and workforce will be betterspentfocusing on detection and response. Companies need to adapt their security in order to focus on discovery, response and remedial action. Cybersecurity will probably move into the space of prediction, should the current trends continue.

Data security to be led by development center

The new opportunity available in application security is an underutilized resource due to its expense. The value of security needs to be quantified and presented to the business. This will allow more companies to accept the idea of a Development Security Operations department that focuses purely on security. Now is the perfect time to marry operation and development. The time of releasingto market has shortened considerably which means it is vital to no longer run the two departments separately. This will shorten or eliminate lag time between the departments that is a current problem.

Privacy, safety, and reliability are all part of cybersecurity. These systems have become a physical impact, which means companies are responsible for the safety of customers and environments. Reliability is essential for production environments and operations. Cybersecurity is a fast-growing aspect of business processes and companies need to prioritize rapidly to ensure business continuity.
