MRI scans will be safer for children and other patients who need anesthesia, thanks to newly developed optical sensors by European researchers. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a powerful, non-invasive method that can obtain detailed imaging of the inside of the human body. Unlike X-rays, MRI does not use ionizing radiation. Instead, it uses a strong magnetic field to detect the internal structure of the human body. It has become an indispensable aid for diagnosis and treatment. However, for some people, the MRI experience is upsetting.

In the MRI machine tubing, the patient must lie motionless for an hour or more. Children are especially scared. The solution is to calm them with sedatives or to take narcotics. Optical solution The automaticrbm OFSETH project has developed a solution that uses optical sensors and optical fibers. This optical sensor has no metal parts, and it sends information in the form of light pulses, which are not affected by magnetic fields. OFSETH is developing a wearable textile that incorporates optical surveillance systems.

The partner's centrally developed system is suitable for children aged 1-5 years, monitoring their breathing, heart rate, and oxygen content in the blood. Weaving into textiles OFSETH developed a system that incorporates sensors into the patient's clothing without requiring any changes. Because plastic optical fibers are particularly suitable for this application, plastic optical fibers can be woven into cloth. This is a major innovation.

During the application of Hangzhou Jingbian Technology Co.,Ltd., optical fibers are implanted into textiles. The main idea of this innovation is to allow patients to wear such clothes and monitor the situation of patients from admission to discharge without changing or interrupting the monitoring system. All the hardware components are ready, and the next step is to implant them into a prototype garment, which will undergo clinical trials. This project will be completed in August 2009.
