North Shields, Tyne & Wear, UK (Aug 26, 2020) - Geraldine Giraffe is a children’s book that has been authored by Doreen Joyce Garside, an imaginative storyteller from the UK known for her lifelong love for giraffes. The story of Geraldine Giraffe focuses on Geraldine, a young female giraffe living with her mum. Her dad takes her out frequently to go for trips in his jeep or for cycling. While Geraldine's mum and dad are separated, they both take time to be with her. Geraldine loves roller skating in the park with her friend Penelope, and she loves days out with her Dad in his jeep and cycling with him. She is friendly with children in the park, an elephant and a pig and definitely likes to enjoy bird watching. The story explores the theme of separation and love so that children from different kinds of circumstances can resonate with that.

Geraldine Giraffe explores the fun of growing up and all the misadventures that make life worthwhile and interesting. The A4 size, 55-page book, includes six stories and has ten full-page color illustrations with a further 25 color images on numerous pages that show the simple joys of Geraldine’s life. In one of the incidents, Geraldine Giraffe was also taken by large birds on a fantastical flight to the birds' annual congress, where she witnesses them having a party, singing, dancing, eating and drinking together. Other incidents show Geraldine Giraffe going on an aeroplane flight, visiting the dentist, and going on a camping trip all with chaotic results.'

The cover of the book includes the images of a boy and two girls where one of them is a black child playing with two other white children. The artwork is carefully chosen to symbolize inclusion. The author Doreen Joyce Garside has relatives in six countries around the world, and all these diverse cultures have played an important role in shaping up the author into who she is. Hence she felt it to be important to include people from all backgrounds into her work.

While the story of Geraldine Giraffe is a heartfelt one that describes all the joys and fun of growing up, there are also moments of grief that color Geraldine's family life. The story of Geraldine Giraffe explores the themes of loss and grief so that children can understand the idea of death and loss and are better able to deal with such feelings. Geraldine learns how to grieve for her Granny Grizelda when, sadly, she dies. Doreen Joyce Garside was a bereavement counselor many years ago, and she is aware of the benefits of discussing these ideas with children so that they can be aware of the grieving process. The story is poignant with a rich spectrum of emotions that children can surely resonate with.
