Managed DNS Services Market Information, by Server (Virtual Private, Dedicated DNS, Managed DNS, Shared DNS) - Forecast 2025

Managed DNS Services Market Overview:
DNS is a distributed, coherent, reliable, autonomous, hierarchical database, the first and only one of its kind. The Domain Name System (DNS) translates Internet domain and host names to IP addresses and vice versa. On the Internet, DNS automatically converts between the names we type in our Web browser address bar to the IP addresses of Web servers hosting those sites. Larger corporations also use DNS to manage their own company intranet. Home networks use DNS when accessing the Internet but do not use it for managing the names of home computers.

Some of the major functions of DNS include locating IP addresses to specific site names, and then storing this data. This process is also known as “maintaining records”. Second function is to distribute the DNS over a vast network of connections, and a DNS can also store a vast library of records. DNS is the term used to define a database and, most importantly, a database that can be easily shared. This is because each server holds only a minor portion of the host name to IP address mapping details.

Managed DNS Services Industry is so widely used and is typically the first point of contact between a user and an application, it can be utilized to extend the plane of control far beyond the confines of the data center – where legacy appliances tend to dominate – to the extreme edge of the Internet. Developers are now managing failover, disaster recovery, load-shedding, load-balancing, and traffic management functions at points much closer to the end user. By doing so, they are improving performance while creating a new orchestration layer far away from the core application itself, thereby boosting resiliency.

Issues with DNS can be intermittent and difficult to troubleshoot given its geographically-distributed nature. Clients can still connect to their local network when DNS is broken, but they will be unable to reach remote devices by their name.

Depending on the service type, the managed DNS service market is split into DDos protected DNS, premium/advance DNS, and GeoDNS. DDoS protected DNS segment is set to expand at the fastest rate. Given the surge in DDoS attacks, enterprises are going for managed DNS services, as these services protect against DDoS attack, DNS failover services, migration services, zone-based routing, and location-based routing, among others. This helps enterprises manage DNS efficiently.
With respect to the organization size, the market can be considered for small & medium enterprises and large enterprises. Small & medium-size enterprises note high adoption rate of managed DNS services given their cost-effectiveness and comprehensiveness.

In terms of end-user, the managed DNS service market can be narrowed down to banking, media & entertainment, e-commerce, healthcare, retail, and consumer goods, financial services and insurance (BFSI), education, government, and others. All of the industry verticals mentioned make extensive use of managed DNS services for managing DNS attacks, without requiring any additional investment.

Regional Analysis:
The key markets for managed DNS service include South America, Europe, the Middle East & Africa, North America, and Asia Pacific.

In 2018, North America was identified as the leading market for DNS service. The market in the region banks upon a large number of managed DNS service providers that provide services to local and international clients. Segmentation:
Service-based segmentation presents enterprise services and self-service. For enterprise services, DNS host records and advertises your essential services such as web, mail, remote desktop, and file transfer protocol (FTP).

DNS self-service is useful for creating automated replies. In the market segmentation based on server types, primary servers and secondary servers exist. A server that acts as the first source for DNS data and responds to queries is called a primary server. Although a secondary server is similar to the primary server, it does not have the same access to DNS data.
