The concept of remote working has been tempting in modern workspaces. A quick search on Google Trends shows that terms such as remote work, work from home and telework have gained more and more interest since the early 2000s and peaked during the peak of the pandemic in March 2020.

The growing popularity of remote working has caused employees to take notice as well. As it became impossible to work from the office in early 2020, more than 90% of global companies have moved their headquarters and switched to remote mode. But is it just a solution to the pandemic, or are there other benefits to working from home that you need to consider even after the pandemic has left society? Before exploring it, take a look at where it started.

A HISTORY OF REMOTE WORKING
Believe it or not, remote working is the default state humans worked in before the industrial revolution. Only a few people such as ministers, clergymen and royalty would go to a separate workplace. Others like potters, blacksmiths, jewelers, and shoemakers worked all day outside the home and knew the benefits of WFH.

During the industrial revolution, factories and industries were created. And people started "going to work". This was a big change from traditional money making practices. As modern offices began showing up in the 1960s, people became more familiar with "offices" as we know them today. However, the biggest turning point was the invention of the internet.

With the development of technology with the help of the Internet, services such as WiFi have become widely available and have enabled people to work from anywhere with the new found connectivity. The preference for remote work has grown slowly and steadily as people have begun to see the benefits of WFH, but remote work was catapulted into a fast run when the pandemic hit the world this year in 2020. .
