SDMC Unveils H.265 Android Set-top Box for HDTV

SDMC has unveiled its Android TV set-top box that uses h.265 video decoder and plays full 1080p high definition video on HDTVs.
 
SDMC has unveiled its Android TV set-top box that uses h.265 video decoder and plays full 1080p high definition video on HDTVs, is a digital media player, a games console, and a mini tablet PC.
Android TV set-top box isn’t new to the STB market. Since years ago the first Android STB turns the conventional TV to smart TV, Android STB gives more and more magic to TV entertainment. The company says that as well as offering full 1080p high definition h.265 video decoding, its Android TV set-top box DV7905 can also act as a digital media player, games console and a mini Android tablet PC.
This is not the first time that the power of the h.265 has been brought to Android TV set-top box. Check the Alibaba and pages of H.265 Android TV set-top boxes lists will show you different kind of them. SDMC's H.265 Android set-top box DV7905 will have to be something pretty special to trump them, but without the benefit of testing, we can only tell you what we know from the company.

The set-top box runs on Android 4.4, is powered by a 1.5GHz Cortex A5 CPU supported by 512MB/1G/2G of DDR3 system memory, and comes with 4GB/8G/16G/32G of onboard MLC storage with expansion possible via USB and an TF card slot. The three models available variably in black, white and blue, and can handle H.265 decoding, h.265 encoding, all popular video formats and audio formats.
In addition to a having a browser, Facebook access, and a media player, SDMC's Android TV set-top box is also said to have access to Android Market to allow apps to be downloaded. Connection to the home network is possible via Ethernet or built-in 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and file sharing with a networked PC is also possible. HDMI 1.4b takes care of TV connectivity, there are two external USB 2.0 ports offer additional storage possibilities courtesy of external drives.
SDMC offers three DRM options for operators, so operators can choose DRM from Verimatrix, Playready, and Widewine. As to middleware, Beenius was said to be supported.
