A Visit to Wonderful Bridges in Rodopi Mountain, Bulgaria

Bulgaria could offer very amazing resorts that could satisfy everyone's taste. In case you've already decided to visit any of the Bulgarian ski resorts in Rodopi Mountain and you wish to see something exceptional and beautiful, you should probably check out the Wonderful Bridges. This location attracts not only Bulgarian tourists but many individuals from different nations also. These bridges are in fact enormous marble arches connecting the two banks of the Deep Dol River that comes out of Big Persenk Peak (2091 meters) surrounded by centuries old fir-groves and pine woods. They all bear the title Erkupriya that interpreted from Turkish means: er - earth and kupria - bridge. This is only one of the most interesting phenomena in Bulgaria and it's in the centre of Rodopi Mountain on the East slope of Chernatitsa hill.

The altitude of this Bulgarian miracle of nature is 1450 meters. This place is situated south from Plovdiv city and close to Chepelare town. This phenomenon isn't only attractive because of its striking appearance but also with its own history and origin. In former times, a cave was formed in the marble stocks in the waters of Deep Dol River but it collapsed, probably because of an earthquake. The waters have obtained the fallen splinters and that way they've shaped two rare for their attractiveness natural rock bridges. The very first one is larger with length 96 meters and elevation near 70 meters. Its vault towers above the crystal clear water of this river. The marble block, from which it is formed, is 15 meters wide. There's a road on the market. In the walls, you will find two connected caves and several other Karsts hollows, where lots of birds and bats locate a nice shelter.

Two-hundred meters further down you can see the second bridge, which will be 60 meters long and resembles a tube. Its elevation is approximately 50 meters along with the arch alone is 30 meters. The bridge begins with a wide entry, which slowly gets thinner and in its end, it looks similar to a fissure. At the lower end of this bridge, the river suddenly disappears and comes to the surface after 2 km. Not far from here in front of the second bridge is the entry of the Icy cave in which the ice isn't melting until late summertime.

The seas are covered with wild geranium and Haberlea rodopenzis (called by the natives "the everlasting flower"). The everlasting flower is not often seen although the conditions in Bulgaria are good for it. Near these striking nature formations, you can have a rest in a tourist hut called after the name of this place - Wonderful Bridges. Here you can enjoy the beautiful views beneath the sounds of the woods. There are a few eco paths also which you can go through and breathe the fresh forest air. Underneath the summit of Persenk there's an ancient Roman road which was built from the Ist century B.C.. The Wonderful Bridges is reported to be one of the hundred Bulgarian national tourists' objects. The way to the location is long and the road is very narrow and the travel seems to be eternally but once you get there you will never want to leave. Bulgaria is a small country with many beautiful spots. Do not hesitate to see Bulgaria since here are hidden amazing treasures of the nature's most gorgeous phenomena.
