Your garden's worst enemy would probably be the weeds. Keeping your garden or lawn weed-free is difficult to do. It has been a battle for most people to keep their plants from these weeds, even if they may be lawn experts, these intruders cannot be easily eradicated and total suppression is impossible. However, planning your actions can help you succeed against these unwanted plants. But you must first understand, how they work and what kind of weeds are you dealing with.

Weeds are called nuisance plants or generally, they are undesired, and most of the time, weeds are everywhere. In gardening, weeds are just natural and like other plants, they also need water, sunlight, and nutrition in order for them to survive (that is why they are in your lawn). Weed seeds are airborne, which means that they can be carried by humans, animals, insects, and even water. Even the mowers can possibly carry the seeds, making your lawn prone to weeds. Another thing is, weeds may be perennial or annual.

Choosing and planning your preventive steps are being guided by weed identification and its life cycle. Both is significant since there are weeds that die naturally at the end of the season or identify the weeds that grow in your garden, you are able to know if they are harmful or poisonous. Dandelion, plantain, crabgrass, dock, English daisy, ground ivy, moss, henbit, oxalis, and yellow nutsedge are the most common lawn weeds.

To prevent weeds from growing in your lawn, here are some tips:

Find and cultivate a good ground. Plants prefer fertile and less compact soil which weeds do not grow much. In contrast, weeds like poor and compacted soil. Some may be suited growing in damp or others in dry kind of soil. Whatever the soil is, you can push your lawn area toward the good and the moderate can help.

Mow often. Chopping off the weeds would help prevent weeds from growing, but apart from that, mowing might carry the seeds of weeds.

Mow at the right height. Trimming your lawn at the shortest height will make the abrupt growth of weed seeds and seedlings because of the sunlight that they get. Longer lawns shades the weeds from the sun, sudden growth is being avoided.

After taking these steps yet weeds are relentless growing, here are some additional tricks to work with.

Evaluate and correct. Although your lawn is healthy and there are still weeds that growing, then most likely, other factors in gardening has been set aside

Pull-out weeds. By hand-pulling weeds is effective, but you must assure that the entire root of the weeds is also being pulled-out so that it is not being able to regenerate.

Opt for weed-killers. Herbicides are good option but, this should not be taken lightly since issues of environmental safety and toxicity level is at stake. Weeds should be properly identified, read labels, ask questions, and be careful if you decide to go ahead.

Seek for professional help. Consulting a lawn-care company would be helpful. Notice what the workers say. The company would not hinder you from applying herbicides without talking first on what may cause the rampant growth of weeds.
