Irving, Texas - Like many other types of cancer, it is not easy to know when you have prostate cancer especially during its early stages. In fact, it is possible for men to live with prostate cancer for several years and not know it. It is therefore important for men to be diagnosed for prostate cancer as early as possible.
“By the time the prostate cancer symptoms start manifesting, chances are the disease will have spread to other organs and tissues near the prostate”, say the physicians. “Don’t wait for the symptoms to start appearing; go for screening early as it will improve the chances of curing the disease.”
The prostate cancer symptoms that are likely to occur include:
• Burning or pain during urination.
• Changes with one’s urination, such as frequent urination particularly at night, difficulty starting or holding back urination, interrupted urine flow, or inability to urinate
• Pain while ejaculating
• Presence of blood in semen or urine
• Ongoing pain in the upper thighs, hips and the lower back
Although these symptoms are consistent with prostate cancer, they may also relate to other noncancerous conditions, such as:
• Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – It refers to the prostate’s enlargement and it commonly affects men while the age. This condition can disrupt urine flow as well as sexual function. Its treatment includes use of medication or surgery.
• Prostatitis – It of the inflammation of one’s prostate, and its symptoms resemble those of prostate cancer.
“Even though prostate cancer symptoms show much later on, it is still possible to detect it before the symptoms appear,” explain the physicians. “This is achieved through a screening process involving two tests – the Prostate Specific Antigen and the Digital Rectal Exam (DRE).”
