Bereits seit vergangenem August lässt Microsoft die Windows Insider Gemeinde frühe Ausgaben der nächsten Hauptversion von Windows 10 - Codename Redstone 2 - testen. Die bislang veröffentlichten Builds enthielten jedoch keine wirklich großen, neuen Features und der Softwareriese hüllte sich hinsichtlich seiner Pläne weitgehend in Schweigen. Mit Vorstellung des Creators Updates hat sich das nun geändert.
Microsoft zeigte im Rahmen einer ausführlichen Präsentation diverse, jedoch laut offiziellen Angaben nicht alle Neuerungen der nächsten großen Windows 10 Ausgabe. Wie der Name Creators Update schon impliziert fokussiert sich das Windows-Team bei der Entwicklung auf Bereiche des Betriebssystems, die entweder zum Gestalten beziehungsweise Erschaffen von Inhalten, oder zum konsumieren dieser genutzt werden können. Während des Events wurden die Initiativen auf drei Feldern besonders herausgehoben: Augmented und Virtual Reality Erfahrungen, bessere Gaming-Erfahrungen inklusive Unterstützung für fortschrittliche 4K-Inhalte und In-Game-Livestreaming sowie neue und erweiterte Möglichkeiten, mit Freunden, Kollegen und Familienmitgliedern zu kommunizieren beziehungsweise Inhalte und Erfahrungen zu teilen.

Aber eins nach dem anderen. Die Neuerung, die Microsoft als eine der wichtigsten des Creators Updates herausstellte, ist „3D for everyone“. Dieses Feature umfasst verschiedene Werkzeuge, Anwendungen und Hardware-Initiativen - darunter einige relativ günstige VR-Headsets von diversen Herstellern wie Acer, Asus, Dell sowie Lenovo - die alle zusammen AR- und VR-Erfahrungen für jedermann zugänglicher machen sollen. Natürlich hat Microsoft bei all dem stets sein eigenes Produkt HoloLens ganz besonders im Fokus. Außerdem präsentierte das Windows-Team mit Paint 3D und PowerPoint zwei Apps, die zukünftig zur Erstellung, Bearbeitung und Betrachtung von 3D-Objekten genutzt werden können.
