Each person has her or his traits of character that build up the unique personality. However, there are certain traits and moral values that are used to be treated as the obligatory as they make us better people and help to develop friendly relationships with surrounding. One of such precepts is compassion. To my mind, it is the crucial belief that represents human's ability to support each other and help to cope with problems in order to maintain healthy society.
In my own life, compassion plays a significant role as it helps to realize the level of my personal involvement to the humanity. I can express compassion in different cases and forms: to homeless people and animals, family and friends troubles, and other difficult situations that create sad feelings. If my friends or family have some troubles, I try to express my compassion not with simple phrases, but with the corresponding support that can cheer somebody up and inspire for further positive thinking and actions. I consider compassion as a kind of moral help that we can provide people with by expressing our personal understanding of the problem and ideas on how to solve them. Naturally, my commiseration cannot always provide people with the expected result due to objective circumstances. For instance, it is impossible to express practical compassion to each and every homeless animal and person. Therefore, in such cases I do my best to give my attention and support to the fullest: to share some food with the homeless animals, or even find the person who can shelter it. As for the homeless people, I try to give them a little money or sometimes talk to them suggesting my help. As I have already mentioned before, I am not able to support everybody, therefore, I feel stressed and disappointed sometimes. On the contrary, when I can express at least a little compassion my spirit enriches with positive energy and inspiration.
Compassion is the mutual way of exchanging the feelings. When I feel some negative emotional state, I choose to share my troubles with someone else. In such case, even a little expression of participation in the form of the phrase or even look can provide the feeling that you are not alone with your troubles. Friendly conversation helps to find the inner power to cope with any situation. Sometimes, while expressing compassion to someone else I can even realize some important things for me, which are also helpful in the process of personal development. In general, compassion provides relief and harmony for both participants of the dialogue. To my point of view, it can be perceived as the method of finding the peace of mind.
According to the Bible, one should do those things he or she wants others to do regards them. In my opinion, this is one of the basic principles of humanity and its unity. However, it does not mean that compassion should be expressed with the expectation of getting advantage of this since the true compassion is unselfish. To be more precise, it means that you have to express this feeling in order to change the world for better; therefore, I believe that my compassion can change someone’s attitude to life, even in case he or she is not ready for that. Compassion strengths my religious belief as it proves the existence of the entire goodness that is present in everybody without considering their life experience.
According to certain prejudices, it is not always easy to express compassion; however, it helps to find hope in any situation. Moreover, it helps to develop sense of mutual understanding and unity. However, it is necessary to distinguish compassion from the simple understanding of the problem. It is important to remember that the main aim of compassion is to introduce optimistic intentions in someone’s heart but not to worsen the situation.
