January

The year of 2017 kinda started on a low note. A ban wave needed to take care of the ongoing botting problem and “Keygate” resulted in the dungeon loot system we have until today. Farming got killed and in case the hardcores don’t want to miss out on chests, they have to buy those Legendary Dragon Keys. Additionally we raised concerns about Neverwinter’s monetization strategy, which ironically would turn into THE hot topic of the MMO world later. And the Con Artist is still the perfect companion!

We also turned our attention to upcoming content in January. Consoles got the Sea of Moving Ice update while PC already prepared for Module 11.
February

February was a difficult month for the game with a lot more downs than ups. So the release of Module 11 was a welcomed sign. We also chatted with PVP stalwart Icydrake about GWF and guinea pigs!

Other than that, phew… A Wild Storm Elixir exploit kept the devs busy and PWE laid off up to 30 employees. Additionally story teller Sean “Commander Ander” McCann left the studio on his own terms to join Blizzard. At least Uncensored and Unblogged kept moving with its Youtube and Twitch feature.
March

The Cloaked Ascendancy was in full flow in March and dominated the coverage on our site. The devs had to fix some annoying bugs and exploits while the players worked to unlock the revamped Spellplague Caverns in the campaign. In the meantime JayAgeDee looked at the River District through his arty eyes. Thomas Foss also sat down with the community team to talk the state of the game. They touched on PVP as well as class balancing. Fittingly, the game would see massive changes to the Devoted Cleric later in the month that shook up the meta quite a bit.

Speaking of balancing: Our reader Omar reasoned that part of the issue was that there simply is too much healing available, and “challenge” too often has to be delivered using one-shots.

Before focused shifted towards Module 11b, March was the time to say goodbye to two long-term community members. Lia Knowles left the game after being banned and Kali Gold quit streaming and switched to Black Desert Online. While Lia’s ban was permanently, Kali has since come back.
