Mouse and Bear-A Story To Raise Awareness Of The UK’s Excluded

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

London, UK – The COVID-19 crisis has hit the UK especially hard. It has caused a complete change in the way we live, work, and interact with others. For many, getting up every morning and going to work is a distant memory as many businesses, organisations and schools have been closed and self-isolation lockdowns imposed on much of the country.

But the people that the economic fallout of the COVID-19 crisis has affected most are what’s now known as the ‘excluded’. That means that, for one reason or another, they have been unable to receive any stimulus relief from the government. For some, their PAYE earnings were more as employed, than as self-employed, and for others, their self-employment status isn’t enough to receive assistance. Either way, these people are struggling to survive as the COVID-19 crisis continues.

Unfortunately, few people know, or even understand, their story. To change that, and to raise awareness for the excluded, one author has written a book titled, Mouse and Bear.

Former primary school teacher, and now children's author / illustrator, Kev Payne, wrote and illustrated a children's book called 'Mouse and Bear' which tells the very true story of the many families throughout the UK who have become the excluded in a clear and simple way. Proceeds of the book will be shared with Excluded UK, a non-profit NGO and serves as a collective platform for those entirely or largely excluded from the UK Government's Covid-19 financial support measures.

In the story, Mouse and Bear, Mouse is an artist who earns food for her work. Mouse sells her paintings to help her fellow mice and shares her food with Bear who promises to protect her in times of need. But when a storm comes, will Mouse be forgotten?

Kev Payne, the book’s author and illustrator, stated, “I wrote the book for everyone who has been excluded to try and show them that they are valued. It is heartbreaking to read stories of other people who are struggling to cope without any support with some even having to resort to crowdfunding to raise enough funds for rent. This book reflects the current situation for many 'mice' during these uncertain times.”
