Grand Prairie, Texas – Garner Fine Arts Academy is proud to announce that their archery team, which consists of 27 4th and 5th grade students, has qualified to go to the national tournament in May. To get the team and their sponsors to the tournament, which will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, the GFAA archery team is fundraising in a brand new way.

The team is utilizing crowdfunding to raise the funds necessary for their trip. While many schools would opt for more “traditional” fundraising methods, this innovative strategy is already proving successful. GFAA’s archery team raised $2,680 of their $18,000 goal in just 4 days using their GoFundMe page, which is currently accepting donations for the upcoming trip. The school has quite a creative streak, shown by its dedication to finding strategies to keep musical lessons, archery, ballroom dancing, and other experiences within their students’ reach.

The Title 1 public school is located between Dallas and Ft. Worth, an area that experiences a number of struggles. Many students and parents have problems learning English, poverty rates are high, and educational resources aren’t readily available. Yet, Garner Fine Arts Academy has some of the state’s highest test scores and finds ways to implement exciting experiences such as archery.

Garner Fine Arts Academy first introduced the National Archery in the Schools Program into its physical education classes in the spring of 2013. The success from the unit led to the formation of a team in 2014 that competed in North Texas, and during this time, the fledgling team gained valuable experience and high scores. This season, the team submitted their scores to qualify for the Texas NASP State Tournament. GFAA’s archery team competed in and won the competition, earning them qualification for the national tournament.

The tournament is less than two months away, and the GFAA archery team has established a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the trip. According to the GFAA archery team’s GoFundMe page, “Sponsorships could be as much as the entire trip, $18,000; $700 to cover the cost of 1 student or sponsor; $480 to cover the transportation for 1 student or sponsor; $60 to cover the food for 1 student or sponsor.”

The GFAA archery team thanks their community and all those who have supported them thus far in the journey. More information about the fundraising campaign can be found at http://www.gofundme.com/oxp2y4
