The global bromine market attained a revenue of $1,864.3 million in 2019 and is predicted to advance at a 5.7% CAGR during the forecast period (2020–2030).

As per the World Health Organization, one of the top ten chemicals which are a major cause for health concern of human beings is mercury. The element occurs naturally in nature and is found in water, air, and soil, by increased exposure to it is toxic for human health, particularly for pregnant women and children. An increased amount of mercury is being emitted into the atmosphere because of human activity, particularly due to the burning of coal for producing energy. Moreover, after being emitted into the environment, it is hard to capture elemental mercury.

Recent studies, however, have shown that bromine can be utilized for reducing mercury emissions, since it converts elemental mercury into its oxidized form, thereby making it easier for emission control equipment to capture mercury. Bromine is found naturally in the crust of earth and is liquid at room temperature. The chemical is brownish-red in color and has bleach-like color. It can further be easily dissolved in water. Owing to the advantages of this element, the global bromine market attained a revenue of $1,864.3 million in 2019 and is predicted to advance at a 5.7% CAGR during the forecast period (2020–2030).

When geography is taken into consideration, the Asia-Pacific region is projected to emerge as the largest bromine market in the years to come. This can be majorly ascribed to the fact that bromine derivatives are utilized widely in China. In addition to this, since the country has an abundance of naturally occurring bromine, large consumer pool, and cost-effective labor, several companies from other regions are setting up their manufacturing plants in China. Moreover, because of the increasing disposable income of people and rapid urbanization, the requirement for bromine-based flame retardants, insulation, and electronic & plastic products is growing as well in the region.
