Summit in UAE to discuss food safety and security challenges

The forum to bring together experts and governement auithorities to discuss on how to prevent food contamination
 
Food safety & security has been a growing concern for UAE. Highlighting the latest technology to prevent food poisoning, cross-contamination and other food-related problems, the Food Safety & Quality Summit commenced today at Beach Rotana, Abu Dhabi. Supported by Health Canada, Supply Chain & Logistics Group and Halal Research Council the summit elaborated on crucial issues related to emerging challenges and standardization procedures with regards to Food Safety & Quality

Delivering special address at the conference today is H.E. Nabil A Molla, Secretary General from GCC Standardization Organization. The forum kicked-off with a session by Mariam Al Khaja & Mohamed Al Shamsi from Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority. They elaborated on ways to implement and incorporate food safety management systems in small catering bussiness. Shifting focus on personal hygenie applications the delegates heard from Ahmad M. Shmoury, Division Manager - Food & Beverage Sector from REZA Hygiene.

Followed by a panel discussion on must have hygiene practices and controlling the contamination of meat products led by Dr. Rasha Salama, Senior Specialist Of Public Health from Dubai Health Authority and Ian Jenson, Manager - Market Access Science And Technology from Meat & Livestock Australia. Another session focused on certification challenges and supplier assessment by Dr. Frederic Aymes, Head Of Quality Management at Nestle Middle East expanded on ways to evaluate risks and design appropriate surveillance plans.

Post luncheon, Dr. Wafa Helmi Rida, Director Of Clinical Nutrition from Dubai Health Authorit will discuss about nutritional challenges faced with different kinds of food products and importance of nutritional labeling. Expanding on the importance of warehousing and 3PL in Food Supply Chain & Halal Supply Chain, Sebnem Sen, Warehouse Analyst And Inspection Manager from Dubai Multi Commodities Centre will apprise the attendees on warehouse inspection and rating programmes. Day one will conclude with a panel discussion on microbiological issues in imported foods v/s locally produced food....solution.

On second day, the summit will majorly focus on the international food safety standards, implementing codex, challenges faced by the hotel / catering sector and microbiological criteria in packaged food. Bringing together experts to create awareness the attendees will hear from Dr. Samy Godefroy, Vice-Chairperson of the FAO/WHO Codex Alimentarius Commission and Director General of the Food Directorate, Health Canada, Ms Mariam Eid, Agro-Industries Department from Ministry of Agriculture, Muhammad Ihsanullah Qamar,Cluster Director of Environment from Al Bustan Rotana & Al Murooj Rotana, Dr. Hassan Bayrakdar, Head Of Scientific & Regulatory Affairs from Mars and Mrs. Munira Al Alsayegh, Principal Food Microbiology Specialist from Food & Environment Section - Dubai Central Laboratory on Day Two.
