The 3rd Annual Corrosion Management Summit, organized by Fleming Gulf got off to an excellent start yesterday - 28th April 2014 at the Hilton Doha Hotel, Qatar. The three day summit is formatted into two workshops on day one and presentations, case studies and panel discussions on the following two days. Corrosion control is a big issue with oil and gas companies with billions of dollars spent every year on active maintenance and repairs. The summit served as an excellent opportunity for global corrosion experts to meet under one roof and share their experiences. This has helped them understand various related issues and equipped them with tools to resolve the same at their ends.

Day one hosted two pre - conference workshops on integrity management of pipelines by Mahmoud El-Alfy, Inspection & Corrosion Support Manager (TC-IO) Technical Services, U.A.E. at ADCO and metalspray technology – the what, why, where and how of this key turnaround tool by Iain Hall, Chief Technology Officer, U.S.A at Integrated Global Services Inc.
Day two of the summit kicked off with the keynote from Dr. Muayyad A. A. Ajjawi, Head of Regulations and Standards Development, HSE Regulations & Enforcement, Qatar at Qatar Petroleum. He gave an overview of corrosion management in the oil and gas industry focusing heavily on risk-based corrosion management. He updated the delegates on identifying corrosion hazards to analyze the corrosion risks and manage the same. Associated with Qatar Petroleum since 1998, Dr. Ajjawi has a vast amount of experience in the industry. Michael Surkein, Senior Materials and Corrosion Consultant at ExxonMobil - USA followed to deliver a presentation on Floating Production Storage Offloading - FPSO corrosion control design to obtain a long reliable life. Corrosion control and inhibition plays a very important role for FPSO due to its exposure to water and moisture. He spoke about the various methods that can be incorporated for corrosion control. With an experience of over 32 years Surkein acts as an advisor across all ExxonMobil upstream companies.

Anticorrosion Protective Systems (APS), Silver Sponsor at the summit also presented today. Graham young, Managing Director, U.A.E. at APS gave an update on the rehabilitation of sub-sea hydrocarbon pipelines using a new form of flexible Kevlar reinforced plastic liners. Software Solutions Partner for the summit; Fathom Solutions presented on advanced corrosion management through integration and utilization of existing infrastructure. Noor Alnahhas, Founder & Director of Sales & Marketing, KSA at Fathom Solutions delivered the presentation. Ron Campbell, International Technical Services Director, Qatar at Belzona presented after the coffee session on internal corrosion management of pressure vessels, delving into introducing novel peelable and resealable flange protection system. Today, last day of the conference will see presentations from SSPC - Qatar Chapter, Petro Rabigh, ExxonMobil, Hempel, Integrated Global Services, and Fathom Solutions among others. One of the key highlights of tomorrow is a case study by Ahmad Sirwan Mat Tuselim, Principal Engineer (Pipeline), Group Technical Solutions, Technology & Engineering (T&E) Division, Malaysia at Petronas on managing pipeline integrity through proactive and effective repair strategies. The day will conclude with a panel discussion on need for corrosion knowledge management as per organizational objectives, giving a chance for the partcipants to discuss their concerns.
