Global leaders and experts gather from different regions to share their knowledge and experience on various EOR techniques

The CAGR of 28.7 percent indicates that the Global Enhanced Oil Recovery Market is highly lucrative. However, an increasing global energy demand is not alone in accounting for an increased interest in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) activities. Rise in oil prices, aging and less productive oil fields, demographic factors and expanding population base are leading to increasing demand for oil and rapid growth in the market. It also indicates an indefinite rise in demand for EOR technologies.

Providing a wide spectrum of EOR technologies deployed in different oil fields across the globe, the 3rd Global Innovative EOR Techniques Conference kicked off yesterday at Le Royal Meridien, Abu Dhabi, UAE. The conference got of to a good start with opening remarks by Serdar Bender, Reservoir Engineer from Turkish Petroleum Corporation. It gathered global leaders and experts from different regions to share their knowledge and experience on various EOR techniques. The 2014 program has been drafted to cover a wide scope of EOR with some key highlights of different techniques like Thermal EOR, Chemical EOR, Gas Based EOR, Microbial EOR, Low-salinity EOR, Gas Injection and others.

Representatives from MOL group, Beijing Hengju Chemical Group Corporation, American University of Sharjah, Flotek, Petroleum Development Oman LLC & Leap Energy addressed the attendees on day one. A recent report stated that Petroleum Development Oman, a third of which is owned by Royal Dutch Shell Plc, has awarded a contract to GlassPoint Solar Inc. to build the Middle East’s first solar plant generating steam to boost output from ageing oil deposits. Munir Al-Hammadi, Amal Steam Project Manager from Petroleum Development Oman LLC, introduced the concept of Solar Steam flooding to the attendees. He also elaborated about Solar Steam Pilot performance in PDO. The first day concluded with a case study on Liquid Carbon Dioxide Flooding in Low Temperature Oil Reservoirs.

Day two commenced with Surendra Bateja, Domain Expert of MEOR at ONGC discussing about the emerging Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery(MEOR). He elaborated about the mechanics involved in MEOR, the challenges that they have come across and different strategies to implement this technique. Followed by a presentation on design and execution of Polymer Flood / ASP by Jacques Kieffer, International Oil Field Manager from SNF SAS. He shared several technical and economical challenges that needs to be validated while executing polymer flood or ASP flood pilot. Delegates post coffee break were part of sessions by Tochukwu Ben Anozie, Hydrocarbon Allocation & Deepwater Production Performance Engineer from Total and Oliver Baudson, Sales Managing Director from TSK Flagsol Engineering GmbH apprised on deep water field operation excellence and frame conditions for Solar EOR respectively.

Post Luncheon, the attendees will hear from Bender on Simulation and Optimization of CO2 Flooding in a Carbonate Reservoir, and Vimal Kumar, President Projects from Cargo Power & Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd on Solar Thermal Technology. The conference will end with an interactive panel discussion on challenges and major developments in Enhanced Oil Recovery.
