Corrosion Under Insulation Forum to discuss corrosion related issues in oil and gas pipeline networks

Cross country pipelines facilitating energy transport are on the rise, with increased demands and new collaborations among companies. The integrity of these pipelines is susceptible to a lot of factors with corrosion being one of the biggest contributor. Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI), appearing in pipelines underneath the insulation, is responsible for 40-60% of the maintenance and repair costs. Mere inspection of these pipelines can be expensive if there arises a need for the insulation to be removed.

Qurban Ali Lashari, Corrosion Control Specialist - Pak-Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO), will speak on monitoring techniques for cross country oil and gas underground pipeline networks at the Corrosion Under Insulation Forum, an event gathering global corrosion experts to deliberate on the latest developments in CUI. The forum will be held on 07 - 08 September 2014, at the Sofitel Al Khobar the Corniche in Saudi Arabia. Mr. Qurban A. Lashari is a seasoned technical & corporate trainer having more than 22 years of diversified industry experience in the oil & gas industry. His experience in asset integrity management includes areas of expertise like API plant, risk - based inspection, failure analysis, Non Destructive Testing (NDT), corrosion inhibitor injection, material performance evaluation and cathodic protection system.

Speakers from Saudi Aramco, American Society of Non-Destructive Testing (Saudi Arabia Section), Qatar Petroleum, MiCorr Inc and SW Materials And Corrosion Ltd will also present at the forum. Topics to be covered include CUI management through NDT techniques, development of a CUI inspection and maintenance philosophy for the LNG industry, ensuring successful plant design to subdue CUI, CUI management in NGL fractionation plants and solving CUI problems using proven advanced epoxy coatings. Day two of the forum will have three workshops on design plan for CUI mitigation, CUI risk screening for equipment & piping and innovative measures to prevent CUI.

The forum is endorsed by The Institute of Materials Finishing - IMF. Originally founded in 1925, IMF deals with all technologies of surface finishing on a wide variety of materials. The forum sponsored by KAEFER, Hajjan Trading and Industrial Services Co Ltd (HATCON), PPG Protective & Marine Coatings and Rockwool will serve as an excellent opportunity for delegates to share insights with their peers and also learn from their experiences aiding in making the current practices in play more effective.
