Building a safety culture for miners

More than 100 global mining health & safety leaders to meet in Johannesburg to discuss the best practices in building a safety culture to protect their human assets.
 
Significant announcements were made this week for the much awaited 4th Global Health & Safety Forum which is scheduled on 09 - 11 September 2014 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Vic van Vuuren, Director -International Labour Organization; Mongezi Veti, General manager HSEC - Exxaro; Alwyn Spies, Behavior Safety Manager - Sasol; Alfred Chinbuah, HSLP Manager - Newmont and Alfred Chimutanda, Group Health, Safety and Environment Manager - RioZim were announced as speakers at this forum.

The 4th Global H&S Forum in Mining will share a platform with industry leaders to summon the roles of people, technology and systems in enhancing safety programs to build or improve the culture of safety in an mining organisations. Some of the topics to be covered at the conference include 'Working on an effective legislative framework and its compliance';'Promoting a Proactive Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Culture during Decision Making' ; 'Studying current trends and control mechanisms to reduce fall of ground accidents' and 'Driving preventive and control measures for some occupational hazards in mining'

A miner's world is a dangerous place whether they operate underground or deal with equipment above the ground. Hazards, accidents, diseases and disorders cause tremendous emotional strain to miners and huge financial losses to mine owners. In the wake of recent mine explosions in Soma, Turkey where more than 300 miners lost their lives, this conference will provide a platform for professionals to learn what global mining giants are doing to safeguard their human assets by building a safety culture.
