History of Bollywood


The Indian movie industry has a massive fan base not just in the home but also abroad, particularly in countries that have a substantial Indian population. The expression Bollywood is a phrase coined for its Hindi-language movie industry set in Bombay, India. Bollywood is often wrongly called the whole of Indian Cinema. It's actually only portion of the movie market.

The Debut of Cinema in India started with the Lumiere Brothers' screening six quiet short films at the Watson Hotel at Bombay. Back in 1910, Dadasaheb Phalke attended a screening of The Life of Christ in P.B. Mehta's American - Indian Cinema and chose to become a filmmaker himself. His initial silent film Raja Harishchandra premiered in 1913. The first Indian feature film with audio has been Ardeshir Irani's Alam Ara (1931) that turned into a super hit. The interval between the 1930's and 1940's saw a fantastic number of social upheavals and the partitioning of India. When most filmmakers chose the easy way out, there have been several directors who stumbled upon various social problems and utilized the liberty movement as a background for their own scripts.

The 1950's brought with it color movies, however people continued to follow black and white movies until the mid-1960s. Story plots typically revolved around love and melodramatic topics.
