History of Bollywood


The Indian movie industry has a massive fan base not just in the home but also abroad, particularly in countries that have a substantial Indian population. The expression Bollywood is a phrase coined for its Hindi-language movie industry set in Bombay, India. Bollywood is often wrongly called the whole of Indian Cinema. It's actually only portion of the movie market.

The Debut of Cinema in India started with the Lumiere Brothers' screening six quiet short films at the Watson Hotel at Bombay. Back in 1910, Dadasaheb Phalke attended a screening of The Life of Christ in P.B. Mehta's American - Indian Cinema and chose to become a filmmaker himself. His initial silent film Raja Harishchandra premiered in 1913. The first Indian feature film with audio has been Ardeshir Irani's Alam Ara (1931) that turned into a super hit.
