It's not in fun, just pain relief. "John Dryden Pain Relief is one of Physiotherapy's major goals. And, it's a great goal as most people seek medical advice after having pain of some kind or other. Physiotherapy is no exception either.

PAIN Pain is derived from Latin poena, meaning pain. The International Pain Study Association (IASP) describes pain as "an uncomfortable sensory and emotional sensation associated with, or defined in terms of, actual or potential tissue damage." This definition clearly shows that pain has an emotional aspect associated with it. The defition also focuses on the protective function of pain as it can occur even in the presence of possible tissue damage, thereby serving as an indication that the body part or whole body is in some sort of distress.

There are two broad categories in which pain can occur: Traumatological Pathological TRAUMATOLOGICAL This pain is the product of some kind of trauma. This may include: trauma due to external injury, e.g. pain due to fracture or pain after soft tissue injury Micro-trauma or chronic stress / strain injury, e.g. lateral epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow), knee joint osteoarthritis.
PATHOLOGICAL Pain is due to some underlying disease mechanism.

Pathological mechanism may also be classified into: inflammatory (rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis) or non-inflammatory (cancerous growth, hysterical pain) Infectious (chikungunya pain, tuberculosis pain) or non-infectious (PIVD cervical or lumbar radiculopathy) Regional (cystic ganglion, complex regional pain syndrome) or systemic (gouty arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis) congenital (chestra).
