Scale up your skill set with Beginners Photography at London Institute of Photography

The new year brings new opportunities, and while some resolutions might fall by the wayside, others will stick. Choosing a new year’s resolution that will scale up a skill set and broaden horizons is a positive way to set out at the beginning of the year, and what better way to do it than by tapping into a creative skill that’s been calling for expression?
London Institute of Photography (LIoP) is offering a series of Beginner’s Photography Courses, all taught in groups with no more than 8 participants. Learning photography in a small group allows each participant individual attention in mastering key skills, while the group offers creative input and support on a common journey.
“Our small group approach has enjoyed huge success,” says Holger Pooten, Director of London Institute of Photography. “Our expert teachers are able to assist each student in reaching their creative potential through hands-on skills development. Our workshops are practical and interactive, so there is no chance of being bored or left behind as the class progresses.”
LIoP has seen hundreds of students develop from complete beginners to masters of the art of photography, with many going on to specialise in fashion photography, documentary photography, street photography and more, embarking on new career paths or simply making the most of a hobby that is satisfying, expressive and enjoyable.
Whether starting out on a new career path, looking for a new hobby, or simply wanting to know how to operate your camera, the Beginner’s Photography Course at LIoP is a great place to start.
“The Beginners Photography Course covers fundamentals of photography, camera resolution, file formats, lenses, principles of exposure, manual exposure and metering modes,” explains Pooten. “These essential skills have been chosen as they form the foundation of high-quality photography and are taught by professional, award-winning photographers with a passion for teaching.”
By the end of the course, students will have mastered their camera in full manual mode and broadened their creative skill sets by exploring the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, focal length and focus. They will also have learnt how to express their creativity through creating strong and captivating images across a range of genres.
“Many of our students who complete the Beginner’s Photography Course choose to further their studies by enrolling in the Intermediate Photography Course,” says Pooten. The Intermediate Photography Course focues on the concepts and principles of composition, design and perception. It is hands-on and project-led and classes are held on weekdays or at weekends.”
For serious students looking at a professional career, there is the option of the Complete Foundation Photography Course. This course takes students from complete beginners to having mastered their camera in manual mode; understanding how to effectively use aperture, shutter speed, focal length and focus; expressing their creativity through basic design principles; crafting images through the viewfinder and settings; completing photo projects; and telling a story through images.
Daytime courses as well as weekends-only courses are available from January through to June. However, spaces are limited to only eight participants per course. “If you would like to give a special gift, why not buy a gift voucher for a photography course for a loved one?” says Pooten. “Vouchers are available at a reduced rate through the month of December and are proving popular!”
