Dr. Gregory Echt discusses the effectiveness of Brachytherapy cancer treatment.

Irving, TX – Brachytherapy has emanated as the most common treatment used, with the decade of research behind it. As part of the standard Brachytherapy, CAT scans are essential about a month after the initial surgery. The images generated by the scan help show the exact location of individual seeds. With this data, the distribution of radiation is available, and an oncologist will assess each outcome. For IMRT surface therapies, the treatment field is done on a test basis to ensure that the treatment will match the predetermined pattern.

"The treatment therapy has already been utilized on over 4,000 victims, aiding to quicken the procedure's evolution as the robust growing method of treating prostate cancer in America," explained Dr. Gregory Echt. "However, there are a few requirements, especially if a patient wants only brachytherapy, known as a monotherapeutic approach."

Here are some of the requirements for such patients wanting to undertake Brachytherapy:

• The prostate itself (and not only the cancerous tumor) cannot enlarge to a high degree - Enlarged prostates commonly occur as men grow old with time.

• It is Dependent on the patient's case - A PSA test result of less than ten must be present.

• There must be a Gleason result of lower than 7 - In cases where the ailment has already escalated outside the prostate, likely, external beam radiation will also be useful.

"Some of the side effects for numerous prostate cancer treatments are erectile dysfunction or urinary issues," continued Dr. Echt. "The American Cancer Society (ACS) says that brachytherapy has the least odds of some form of coital problems over any substitute, making it preferable for many patients."
