Ausprobiert haben wir einige Casual Games aus dem Windows Store, die natürlich ohne Probleme laufen. Anno 2205 läuft in nativer Full-HD-Auflösung in brauchbarer Detailstufe flüssig. Bei Battlefield 1 kommt das Lenovo IdeaPad 720s an seine Grenzen. Um überhaupt annehmbar spielen zu können, muss man niedrige Details und eine HD-Auflösung einstellen. Dann läuft es aber relativ flüssig – und das Notebook bleibt beim Spielen immer noch leise. Die größte Wärmeentwicklung ist in der Mitte des Notebooks wahrzunehmen. Nachfolgend noch einige Benchmarks.Im normalen Gebrauch spürt man diese Einschränkung durch die frühe Drosselung des Ryzen 7 nicht. Das Notebook bleibt einfach schön leise und arbeitet vor sich hin. Möchte man aber mit dem IdeaPad 720s Videos schneiden, spielen oder es anderweitig dauerhaft belasten, muss man den Leistungsverlust bedenken.

Sie sind zwar harte Konkurrenten, aber Intel und AMD haben auch einiges gemeinsam: Beide Hersteller versuchen gerade hastig, die gefährlichen Sicherheitslücken Meltdown und Spectre in ihren Prozessoren zu stopfen. Intel liefert den Hauptprozessor, AMD den für die Bildwiedergabe zuständigen Grafikchip – fertig ist der Intel-AMD-Prozessor Core i7-8809G.Nach einer heftigen Prozessor-Schlacht im Jahr 2017 sah es deshalb für einen kurzen Moment nach Frieden zwischen den beiden Erzrivalen aus. Doch AMD eröffnete kurz darauf das nächste Gefecht und will mit neuen Ryzen-Notebook-Prozessoren Intel Marktanteile abjagen. Und das sind keine Zukunftspläne, eines der ersten Modelle steht für diesen Test auch schon bereit: HPs Envy X360 in der Ausstattungsvariante 15-bq102ng, das Händler wie notebooksbilliger.de aktuell für 777 Euro anbieten.

Reichlich Power mit Ausdauer
Auf den ersten Blick arbeiten die neuen Ryzen-Notebook-Prozessoren mit vergleichsweise niedrigen Taktfrequenzen: Der R5 2500U werkelt mit 2,0 Gigahertz, der R7 2700U mit 2,2 Gigahertz. Allerdings laufen gleich vier Kerne mit diesem Tempo und bei hohem Leistungsbedarf taktet der Ryzen auch einzelne Kerne hoch – auf bis zu 3,6 Gigahertz (R5 2500U) oder bis zu 3,8 Gigahertz (R7 2700U). Das schaffen unter den sparsamen 15-Watt-Prozessoren nur noch zwei Intel-CPUs der 8000er-Serie („Kaby Lake Refresh“). Neben deutlich mehr Leistung sollen die Ryzen-Notebooks auch viel länger durchhalten: Bei der Video-Wiedergabe etwa schafft der Akku im Vergleich mit einem älteren AMD-Notebook fast die doppelte Laufzeit – so die Theorie.
