When a migraine attacks, it may cause a pulsating sensation or a throbbing pain, usually on one side of a human head. Sometimes, migraine may be accompanied by vomiting, nausea, or extreme sensitivity to sound and light. While it may attack and last for hours and days, it may also be severe enough to interfere with one’s daily activities.

Symptoms of Migraines

Migraine often develops through any of the three stages of development: childhood, adolescence, or early adulthood. Eventually, it may develop into either:

1. Prodrome
Several days before the migraine, you might have some changes that should be signs of it knocking. The signs include:
• Frequent yawning
• Increased thirst and urination.
• Neck stiffness
• Mood changes (from depression to euphoria)
• Food cravings
• Constipation
2. Aura
Aura may occur before or during migraines for some people. Auras are usually reversible symptoms of the nervous system and maybe visual or other disturbances. Aura migraine examples include:
• Difficulty in speaking.
• Hearing noises or music.
• Uncontrollable jerking or other movements.
• Weakness or numbness either in the face or on one side of the body.
• Vision loss
• Visual phenomena such as seeing bright spots, various shapes, and flashes of light.
• Pin- and needle-like sensations in the arms or legs.
3. Attack
If untreated, a migraine can last up to 72 hours. It may attack rarely or do so several times in a month. When it attacks, you may experience:
• Pain on one side of the head, or both.
• Sensitivity to sound, light, and sometimes even touch and smell.
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Throbbing or pulsing pain.
4. Post-drome
After the attack, one may feel drained, washed out, and confused for up to a whole day. Some people may also report feelings of elation while sudden head movements may bring back the pain briefly.
