Tackles4Cancer released a book titled “Super Van Tackles Cancer”, to create awareness about pediatric cancer. The book, co-written by former NFL player and cancer survivor, Dominic ‘Billy’ Austin, is based on a true-life story of six-year-old Van Johnson who was diagnosed with cancer during a routine physical for a flag football league in Sugar Land, Texas. The Tackle Cancer series includes inspirational real-life stories of kids using their super powers to beat cancer.

Dominic Austin, a former NFL star, writer, creator and a cancer survivor believes every child has the capacity to be a superhero and that the most important characteristics of a superhero are love, hope and faith. He hopes every superhero finds the inspiration to tackle cancer while reading the book.

Austin was diagnosed of cancer during the week of his 39th birthday in which he had stage III Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. While the diagnosis is a recent one for Austin and his loved ones to cope with, it is not one that deters his do-good spirit from wanting to change the fight of his life into a learning experience for others. Shortly after his diagnosis, Austin started Tackles4Cancer, a non-profit organization to promote cancer awareness and help those in need of financial and emotional assistance while fighting cancer.

Austin says, “As a first rule of having this new life, never allow someone to convince you that you are healthy if you know that you don’t feel like it yourself- it could cost your life.”

“Super Van Tackles Cancer” aims to serve not only as an inspiration to those close to Austin, but also for him and others with the disease.
