Chattanooga, Tennessee — After over 30 years operating in the southeast, The Great Backyard Place is opening its doors to customers in Western Carolina, February 13. The new superstore, located at 305B Airport Rd., will feature the same trusted products that made The Great Backyard Place a top pool, spa, and furniture retailer in Chattanooga and Knoxville, plus a newly expanded offering of backyard living products.

With an expansive selection of quality goods for outdoor living, including patio furniture, kitchens, and pools, The Great Backyard Place will be a one-of-a-kind shop for Asheville residents.

“We are so excited to bring The Great Backyard Place to Asheville,” said Frank May, CEO of the family-owned business. “The new location is the culmination of many years of planning and adding to our brand to make a shop unlike any other in the area.”

Over the years, more American homeowners have invested in creating a personal backyard living space for their families, which is one reason May said he chose Asheville for the new location. “What Western North Carolina has lacked is a one-stop shop that offers the best for everything backyard living,” he said. “Great Backyard puts the grill and appliance shop, casual furniture shop, pool store, and outdoor hearth products all under one roof.”

The Asheville store will be the company’s fifth location. Incorporated in the 50s, this family firm has seen many changes in its evolution over the years, which led to the offering of pools and spas in 1979. Starting as A&M Family Fun Center, the Chattanooga company assumed the well-known name “The Pool Place,” in 1982.

With such a long and successful history, manager of the new location Matt Miller hopes the business’s well-known legacy will be an enticing factor for Asheville customers. “Great Backyard has been a thriving business for over thirty years, which is what I hope our customers see when they shop at the new store. This is a company that has earned customer trust through dedicated service and we will continue that tradition in Asheville.”
