The T20 tournament India leg was suspended midway in May due to COVID-19 cases in its bio bubble. Thankfully, it will resume from 19th September, Sunday, with defending champions Mumbai Indians clashing with Chennai Super Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

"The five-time champions and current title holders Mumbai Indians taking on three-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 19 September. The MI vs. CSK match will be a momentous occasion as IPL will welcome the fans back to the stadiums after a brief hiatus owing to the COVID-19 situation", as written in the IPL press release.

IPL chief operating officer Hemang Amin informed teams on Tuesday that fans will "return" in "limited capacity" for the second half of the competition. There are three locations in the United Arab Emirates hosting the games: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.

The IPL press statement describes the return of fans as a "momentous" event and stating that "restricted seating" will be allowed at the three venues owing to UAE government pandemic rules, it did not specify the number of tickets sold. However, the events will serve as a warm-up for the UAE's local governments and the BCCI ahead of the 2021 Men's T20 World Cup, which begins on October 17.

While the World Cup's first-round will happen in Oman, the Super 12s and knockouts will be hosted in the United Arab Emirates.

It's the second time IPL will happen during the Covid-19 pandemic. The BCCI also moved the IPL to the UAE in 2020, when the entire competition went as planned behind closed doors. In the first phase of the 2021 season, 29 live T20 matches were played without fans across multiple cities in India. The updated calendar included 31 games for the UAE leg.

The first half of this year's IPL kicked off behind closed doors in India on April 9 but was called off indefinitely on May 3 when many players from four different clubs tested positive for Covid-19 at two separate locations. The BCCI was obliged to halt the competition after the situation got out of hand.

The great majority of the UAE population has been completely vaccinated, which might be the cause for the return of the crowds. While it is unclear what the different requirements for international fans will be, one necessary regulation is likely to be that the individual must be fully vaccinated.

IPL is one of the most popular T20 league tournaments in the world! Many international players play along with domestic talent during these T20 matches. It surely feels like a festival for cricket fans. Now you can also join in on the IPL mania and catch the live scores on Isports247.net!
