Besonders erfreulich ist die hohe Auflösung aber dann, wenn man häufiger Screenshots für Chats oder – wie ich selbst – für Blogbeiträge erstellt. Bei einem HD- oder FullHD-Display muss man ein YouTube-Video schon im Vollbildschirm geöffnet haben, um einen Screenshot mit mehr als 1.000 Pixeln zu bekommen. Bei einem 4K-Display sind selbst kleinste Ausschnitte des Bildes bereits sehr hochauflösend, wie das oben eingebettete Bild zeigt. Der ausgewählte Bildausschnitt ist jedenfalls ausreichend groß, um ihn beispielsweise per Telegram an einen Freund zu schicken.Besonders praktisch ist die hohe Auflösung auch deshalb, weil man Fotos oftmals komplett anzeigen kann ohne Zoomen zu müssen. Die Aufnahme einer 8-Megapixel Kamera kann vollständig dargestellt werden, während sich 12 Megapixel noch knapp ausgehen.

Die Schärfe von derart hochauflösenden Displays, wie dem des HP Spectre 13, ist natürlich überragend und die Suche nach einzelnen Pixeln ist natürlich völlig sinnlos. Selbst aus nächster Nähe sind Pixel nicht wirklich erkennbar. Schriften und Bilder in entsprechender Auflösung sehen schärfer aus als Drucke. Es ist wirklich ein Genuss, Inhalte auf solch hochauflösenden Displays zu betrachten.Das Problem ist: Schärfe ist nicht alles. Eine hohe Auflösung bedeutet nicht automatisch, dass es sich auch um ein außerordentlich gutes Panel handelt. Es ist höchstens ein Indiz dafür, aber noch lange kein Beweis. Bei Displays spielt neben der Auflösung auch die Farbdarstellung, der Kontrast sowie die Helligkeit eine wichtige Rolle. Zum Beispiel löst das HP Spectre 13 mit UHD-Display deutlich höher auf als die Einheit des Surface Book 2. Qualitativ kommt es allerdings keineswegs an das Microsoft-Notebook heran.

Die Effizienz ist allerdings geringer, was uns zum aktuell wohl größten Manko eines 4K-Displays bei einem Laptop führt. Wer ein Notebook mit 4K-Auflösung erwerben will, muss damit rechnen, dass die Akkulaufzeit deutlich unter den Angaben des Herstellers liegen wird. Diese bezieht sich bei High-End-Notebooks meist auf jene Konfiguration mit der niedrigsten Auflösung. In Sachen Akkulaufzeit sind große Unterschiede zu FullHD-Displays festzustellen.Durch die höhere Auflösung bekommt man natürlich gewissen Komfort, allerdings müsst ihr momentan große Abstriche bei der Akkulaufzeit einrechnen. Diese würden wir eigener Erfahrung nach im Vergleich zu Konfigurationen mit FullHD-Display etwa bei 35 Prozent beziffern. Wenn ihr 9 Stunden beim FullHD-Modell bekommen würdet, kommt das 4K-Modell mit demselben Akku höchstens auf 6 Stunden.
