Remember the days when wearing a simple pair of glasses labeled you as a 'nerd'? Well, times have almost changed. Though the Geek-chic look has made many who wear glasses look like a nerd on purpose, it's still a fad that most of the eyeglasses-wearing population has gone against. Many hipsters and college-aged kids make the fad look cool but not everyone wants to look like a nerd. With the amount of varying styles, colors, and materials for glasses on the market now, your prescription glasses can now enhance your wardrobe instead of drag it down. Plus, with the advent of the Internet, you can shop for affordable glasses online and buy multiple pairs to match your outfits. Yet, many people don't know how to properly pair their glasses with their outfits to keep them from looking nerdy by accident. Here are a few tips on how to avoid looking geeky in your new eye glasses.

First and foremost, stay within your comfort zone when picking out a pair of glasses. If you like the cat-eye frame and you know it looks good on you don't stray and opt for circular wire metal frames. Straying too far out of your comfort zone can make you feel out of place. Instead, try a modern-looking pair of black plastic frames with rectangular lenses that fan upwards at the top. Staying within your comfort zone basically means not straying too far from what you like but straying far enough from it that you still achieve a different look. You can best achieve this by trying out a pair of glasses in a different color. For women, instead of getting the same ol' black plastic frame with rectangular lenses, try them in red, purple, or even brown. For men, if you're used to gold or brown hued frames, try black or gunmetal colored eyeglasses frames instead.

Next, take a good hard look at your wardrobe. Many people have their wardrobe separated into three different categories: work, play, and what they wear when no one sees them at home. Think about what you wear to work every day - do you dress up in a suit or professional attire or are you bound to the jeans and a graphic tee look that's popping up all over the hi-tech industry? What you wear to work should impact the kind of frames you wear. You want to look smart without taking your outfit completely off-track. A great outfit can be ruined by the wrong frames. If you wear a suit to work or dress nicely, aim for prescription glasses that compliment your suit. If you normally have a conservative personality, a pair of bright red eye glasses may completely ruin your outfit but if your suit is gray, try silver or gunmetal colored frames. Yet, if you're used to wearing black day-in, day-out, break up the monotony with a colorful frame. You simply cannot go wrong with a mono-chromatic outfit - it's classic and classy. Yet, if you're stuck to jeans and a t-shirt, spice it up a bit with something colorful and vintage-looking. Steer clear of "Harry Potter frames".
