They can be replaced, however you'll need to reach the limit of expertise as the two offset legs and the 5 legs don't have 22 years of expertise. A majority of the pallys accept that they'll be carried around for a while.

If you've got all three and are human you take the pants off for a short time, however, it's recommended that you keep them as a transition piece while you are gearing in the p3. I'm not sure what other species do in the first place, perhaps they do not take them off not really certain.
