Forgeway pushes the bounds of technology with Aerok low density fillers

Forgeway's research and development pushes the boundaries of bonding technology in the aerospace and automotive industries, whilst promoting environmental responsibility and cost-effective production processes.

Forgeway products, including the Pyrok, Formoa and Aerok range, have the prestigious AS9100 accreditation. They have high temperature resistance, low toxicity, fire and smoke retardant capabilities and other exceptional characteristics as plastic and composite bonding adhesives and low density void fillers.

“The Aerok range of structural epoxy adhesives and ultra low density void fillers have been designed for maximum engineering performance,” says Roderick Buckley, Managing Director of Forgeway. “They cover lap shear and peel strength, durability and performance at extreme temperatures.”

Aerok 7001LV is a one component structural heat cured adhesive and sealant based on modified epoxy technology. Designed to be dispensed from cartridges or bulk systems, the product has low viscosity and can be spread with a notched spreader to coat larger surface areas. It is suitable for bonding metals, composites and structural materials where high temperature resistance is required.

Similar to its counterpart, Aerok 7001P differs in that it is of a paste consistency and can be spread with a notched spreader to coat larger surface areas. It is also suitable for bonding metals, composites and structural core materials where high temperature resistance is required and can cope with the differential thermal expansion of materials.

Aerok 7205 is a single component heat cured, low density void and edge filler also based on modified epoxy technology. Suitable for aerospace applications, it shows high specific adhesion to composite and metallic components found in aircraft construction and meets the requirements of ABD 0031 and FAR/JAR 25.853.

Aerok 9110R is a two component, low density adhesive and filler developed for bonding composite and aluminium honeycomb panels. It is suitable for filling and bonding internal or external kerf cuts in curved panels. It is used widely for ditch and pot/cut and fold applications and as an adhesive to bond insert blocks and to fill surface bond decorative finishes.

Aerok 9110R meets multiple elite aerospace standards, including FAR/JAR/CS 25.853 (a) 60 second vertical burn, ABD 0031/D6-51377 Toxic gas emission, and many other standards depending on the substrate and substrate combinations used.

Closely related is the Aerok 9150 two component, low density void and edge filler based on modified epoxy technology. Designed as a cartridge applied product, it offers excellent workability and adheres well to aluminium alloys and composite materials. It has excellent long term durability and FST performance and meets the requirements of ABD 0031 FAR/JAR 25.853.

Similar is Aerok 9200, also a two component, low density void and edge filler based on modified epoxy technology that offers excellent workability and adheres well to aluminium alloys and composite materials. It has excellent long term durability and FST performance, meeting requirements of ABD 0031 and FAR/JAR 25.853.

Last but not least important is Korfil 500, a two component, fast setting filler based on modified epoxy technology. It is characterised by its minimal health and safety classification, only classed as an irritant. Packaged as a cartridge applied product it offers excellent workability, adheres well to aluminium alloys and composite materials and has excellent long term durability.

Speaking of Forgeway's Pyrok, Formoa and Aerok products, Buckley said Forgeway is proud to have attained accreditation for the AS9100 Revision D quality management system for aviation, space and defence. This internationally recognised standard was established to satisfy the DOD, NASA and FAA critical quality requirements.

“Achieving AS9100 Revision D is just one part of our ongoing commitment to responsible quality management,” says Buckley. “We play an active role in helping to shape industry standards and best practice. By keeping up to date with global technical developments and changes, we deliver first class expertise and support whatever your adhesive and low density filler requirements.”
