Instant gratification does not help one dime!

It doesn't help that we've become a people obsessed with instant gratification. We want everything right now, and we don't want to have to wait. We would rather have other people do the waiting for us, preparing those long cooking time dishes in advance for us, so we can just enjoy them without the wait.

The biggest reason, though, that the American fast food culture has destroyed the idea of home cooking is the ease of access. Fast food restaurants are everywhere, and many restaurant chains will even have multiple stores of the same brand in the same city. You can barely pass a street corner without seeing some sort of fast food franchise, especially in big cities.

Delivery may seem smart, but it makes everything even worse!

Many fast food restaurants, notably pizza franchises, also offer delivery. This holds true for some non-pizza fast food places, most notably Jimmy John's with their "freak fast" delivery option. You can call and place your order, or if you don't want to be bothered talking to someone, you can order right from the web or from your smartphone.

Lazy Dad!

This makes it far too easy for Dad to just pick up burgers and fries for dinner, or for Mom to order pizza delivered. Our children are growing up with barely an idea what meatloaf or pot roast are, let alone more time-consuming meals like chicken and dumplings or home-baked bread. Cooking is no longer a skill passed along from parent to child, because cooking just takes too long.

It's time to call an end to the prevalence of fast food over the dinner table. Tons of recipes for delicious slow cooker dinners are out there, and those can be almost as convenient as fast food options. Sure, you have to shop for the food and then prepare it before putting it in the slow cooker, but there are tons of benefits to be gained.
