Newlyweds donate wedding gift cash to charity for boy with brain tumour

NEWLYWEDS made a family's day after donating all their wedding gift cash to their charity.

Barbara and Howard Buckenham, from Great Yeldham, got married at St Andrews Church on Saturday, July 2.

All money received was given to the Smile of Arran charity, in aid of a boy who died from a brain tumour.

On June 7, 2014, Arran Tosh's life support was switched off following a five-day battle with the disease.

Arran, 13, was a keen fundraiser for Cancer Research UK.

The couple wanted to show their support for his family and invited them to their big day.

Mrs Buckenham said: "We have lived in Great Yeldham for just over three years. We knew Arran and his family used to live here and stayed friends with many, many families in the village.

"I lost my mum and dad to cancer and was so touched by Arran spending his spare time busking to raise money for Cancer Research.

"We did not want any wedding presents so we asked our guests if they would be kind enough to make a donation to The Smile of Arran.

"We had amazing day and after all the wet weather we've had the sun was shining when we came out of the church."

The couple even had their first dance to Arran's version of Stand by Me- sung by his band The Stopclocks.

In total they raised £1,200 for The Smile of Arran charity.

Alison Tosh, Arran's mum, said: "As invited guests and having only known the family for a short period of time, it was not only an exceptional wedding day and a privilege to be there, but the Smile of Arran was overwhelmed by the thought and kindness that went into their support for the charity.

"All who attended the wedding went away knowing much more about the charity and Arran, supplied with one of our wristbands and the Stopclocks CD.

"The children of the village also surprised the bride and groom by wearing Smile of Arran t-shirts designed for the day, giving the happy couple their own personalised t-shirt."
