Missouri Bride Loses Her Groom in Wedding Day Motorcycle Crash

A Missouri bride says she is asking God why her groom was taken from her just hours before they planned to finally wed after 17 years together.

Brandilyn Borron and Gabriel Spiva of Independence, outside Kansas City, were set to marry Saturday, June 4.

The dreams of a long life together were dashed when Spiva was killed in a motorcycle crash early that same day.

Spiva, 31, was having his bachelor party Friday night with family and friends when he got into a motorcycle crash Saturday morning.

Just after midnight, Borron received a call about her soon-to-be husband.

"I was laying in bed because I couldn't fall asleep -- because I was so excited for our wedding," Borron said.

Spiva's mother, Doris Simpson, told her Gabriel was in a crash and didn't survive.

"I lost it. I just kept saying this can't be real," Borron said. "He thought he was invincible."

Simpson said her son loved motorcycles and loved to go fast.

Police told the family a car pulled out in front of him and when he swerved, he lost control, slid and hit a parked car.

He was taken to the hospital, but never regained consciousness.

"It was supposed to be the happiest day of my life, and it was the absolute worst day of my life," Borron said.

Spiva and Borron had been together for some 17 years and have children together. They just got their marriage license and they were finally tying the knot.

"I wanted to be apart on our wedding night, because I wanted to do tradition," Borron said.

"My soul mate was taken from me, and now my babies don't have a daddy."

Spiva had three kids, two with Borron. His youngest, Charlee, will be 2 in August, and Elliana is 5.

It's all even more painful because Spiva died on the same date his mother's father died in 1967.

"She was excited that we were going to get married that day, because she would look forward to that day instead of dreading it, and now she has to dread it for more than one reason," Borron said of Simpson.

Spiva's sister's boyfriend created a YouCaring fundraiser page for Borron and the children. As of Tuesday, it had raised more than $6,000.
