A year in fashion: Best and worst red carpet moments of 2015

AS a year in fashion comes to an end, we bow down to the red carpet knockouts and call out the controversial castrophes.

Best dressed

The 2015 MET gala saw music royalty go head to head, with Beyonce and Rihanna setting the red carpet on fire with their extravagant Chinese-inspired couture gowns.

Taylor Swift stepped up her fashion game, debuting her sexy side in an effortless cut-out jumpsuit on the Billboard red carpet.

The Oscars saw homegrown actor Margot Robbie rise with fashion’s elite, smouldering in a black Saint Laurent gown teamed with a short new do.

Flawless Jennifer Lawrence joined a bevy of best dressed stars that took the plunge, bidding a fashionable salute to the Hunger Games in a breathtaking plum Christian Dior gown.

Worst dressed

JESSICA Mauboy’s ARIA blunder formed a life of its own. While one observer compared the singer’s ill-fitting suit to a small child drowning in an oversized jacket, another likened it to Draco Malfoy’s school robes in the Harry Potter films. Ouch!

Miley Cyrus took vajazzling to a whole new level for her MTV hosting debut. The shameless 22-year-old singer barely covered the essentials in her custom Versace get-up, surely to go down in history as one of the popstar’s most unique looks to date.

Lady Gaga succeeded in bringing her usual quirk to the Oscars red carpet. Tragically pairing her Oscar De Le Renta gown with a giant pair of red leather dishwashing gloves, it wasn’t long until the memes rolled out on Twitter, with Gaga placed in various hilarious domestic situations.

While Aussie stars Naomi Watts and Cate Blanchett rarely miss the mark, their daring red carpet looks had fans scratching their heads a couple of times in 2015.

While Watts lived out her Tinkerbell dreams, Blanchett had us reminiscing about the fake tattoo shirts in our teenage days we’d rather forget.

Madonna made sure all eyes were on her best ass-ets at this year’s Grammy Awards. Just when you thought the singer’s bizarre skin tight leather matador ensemble wasn’t shocking enough, the 57-year-old completed her look with a G-string flash on the red carpet.

While Rihanna usually makes headlines for her barely-there fashion, the singer’s change of pace left everyone wondering what was hiding under her pouffy pink cupcake gown.

One sleeve, a frayed hem, glitter netting, lace and matching canary yellow heels: Heidi Klum’s Versace frock stood out for all the wrong reasons. Sesame Street’s Big Bird was just one of the many comparisons the model copped for this disastrous Emmys look.

Solange Knowles could almost hide behind her psychedelic circle dress on her return to the MET gala red carpet after last year’s elevator drama.

Never one to be shy about breaking the rules, Kim Kardashian changed the face of maternity wear forever, stepping out in a racy lace jumpsuit showing her very pregnant frame and more.

However, the biggest Kardashian of them all is on trend with a bevy of stars who dared to walk the sheer line on red carpets around the world.
