Craig McConnon Group Plans Tour of UK’s Most Musical Cities

Craig McConnon is not content with a year of epic achievements in 2018. He’s already looking to 2019 to break the sound barrier (again) with the announcement of a busting tour of the UK’s 30 most musical cities. While Craig McConnon and his DJ’s have been collectively in every one, he is honouring the publication of The List with a 2019 tour that will span all 52 weeks of the year, kicking off as the New Year rises.
The Craig McConnon Group reacted to the list published by Leonardo Hotels a few weeks back with immediate plans to tour every featured city – perhaps dropping a new venue or more for the Craig McConnon Group in the pursuit. “We saw so many of our top locations in that list,” says Craig McConnon. “It’s kind of surreal to count up the venues in each city we’ve planned in, over and above counting up the cities themselves. Each one has its own character and music scene, but it’s all good and the variety keeps us on our toes, digging deep and finding more for party lovers across the UK.”
Craig McConnon is keeping the exact details of the tour under wraps until venues have been finalised and lock downs confirmed, but rumour is the Craig McConnon Group will hop skip and jump through the list of 30 to maintain the element of surprise. “You know how we love to keep you all in suspense,” quips Craig McConnon. “But we’ll tell you in good time where we’re going to be.”
The Craig McConnon Group says the breaking down the 30 locations into a tour itenarary is a complex matter as some of the cities have well over 100 possible venues. Manchester alone boasts 249 total venues and 448 events a month and is rightfully top of the Leonardo list. “We have our favourites and our staples in pretty much every location, that said, we’re amped to test out some new venues and maybe launch a couple on the way,” says Craig McConnon. “We’ve got a whole year, right?”
The Craig McConnon Group recorded a bumper year in 2018 with some spectacular new venues, experimental gigs, locking new talent and even dropping an album, but it’s not set to stop there. “Craig is always moving, he admits it,” says a spokesman for the Craig McConnon Group. “So, when the list broke we knew exactly where he was heading with it, only Craig always maintains that element of surprise, even with us. So, what he’s coming up with is expected, but not expected. Expect the extraordinary is all I’m allowed to say.”
Craig McConnon played Brighton and Hove not long ago, but number 2 on the list is not going to get passed over. “Honestly, it’s one of my favourite spots,” says Craig McConnon. “It’s cosmopolitan, it’s got vibe, it’s got energy, it’s just a busting place to visit and even better to play. And yeah, the cost of a pint is none too bad.” Quite a few more locations on the list have will have Craig McConnon in recent memory, so the aim is to do something different this time around.
Craig McConnon is well known for his deep digging and he’s hinted his passion for the underground scene hasn’t waned. “I dig differentiating myself from the pack and there’s a couple of ways I like to do that,” Craig McConnon says. “I don’t want to give too much away but yeah, the deep digging is happening big time and I’m pulling out some awesomely unexpected stuff that mixes better than an ice cold cocktail.”
The Craig McConnon Group has been sourcing material from across the UK, often found in unusual places, and that’s what’s said to be bringing the tour together. “A lot of people are feeling sidelined in our society right now, like they don’t belong, so I’m finding outsiders and outliers, doing some sync and dub and getting pretty cool results,” says Craig McConnon. “I’ve got my DJs on the job scouting and pulling up stuff that’s got spunk and punch, especially from local gigs that tread the line bringing in sounds from around the globe.”
The Craig McConnon Group has dubbed the tour GroundSurge and is hoping it will promote greater understanding, acceptance and unity across the UK amidst troubled political times. “Music is what unites us; sound is what changes us,” says Craig McConnon. “So, let’s ride the GroundSurge and party on, whatever tomorrow holds.”
