Want to know how the oil pump contributes to the overall health and operation of the vehicle engine?
It is related to maintaining a stable oil pressure inside the motor so that the lubricant can flow to every component, gap and passage built into the equipment. For this purpose, an oil pump capable of generating an appropriate psi (pounds per square inch) oil pressure is required. Think of it as the heart of an engine that ensures that the engine never stops flowing.

How to complete the work? Let's break it down.

Oil pressure is not constant
If you have ever driven a car with an accurate oil pump meter to track actual pressure, you will notice that the pressure in the engine will not remain constant. This is not a design flaw-an idling engine, like an engine running at a higher speed, does not need to maintain the lubrication pressure of all moving parts. Typically, 10 psi of pressure is required for every 1,000 rpm, although this number may vary with high-performance engines.

The direct relationship between oil pressure and engine speed is related to the oil pump design itself. These devices are linked to the crankshaft of the engine in order to obtain the drives they need to function, usually running at half the crankshaft speed. The amount of pressure generated is a function of the engine speed itself.

Every design is different
Oil pump
Most engines use a wet oil pan oiling system, which means that the bottom of the engine's rotating parts passes through the oil pan and sprays lubricant up onto the cylinder as it spins. The oil pump is required to push the oil to the top of the motor.

There are many designs of pumps, but each pump revolves around the concept of a set of gears or rotors by pressing the oil against the housing where the gears or rotors rotate, thereby pressurizing the oil. Gear pumps are an older design, and rotors—especially eccentric rotor designs, which consist of two rotors with more lobes on one side than the other—are more common in modern vehicles. There are also designs that use sliding vanes on the rotor, as well as a dry oil pan oil injection system, which can completely eliminate the oil pan and rely on a pair of oil pumps to maintain the lubrication of the entire rotating component.

Each type of pump pushes the oil into the engine's oil filter, then pushes it up to the top through the motor, and then finally drops back to the oil pan. There are also some pressure valves that can be opened to ensure that the oil does not exceed a certain psi, otherwise it will damage the internal components.

In short, the design of pumps in modern cars is different, but this is an essential part of the normal operation of car engines.
