Sesame Oil For Hair Works Great To Keep Your Scalp Healthy

Posted January 11, 2020 by BusanGoguryeo

This is something I gather from my research. However, so far that I have been using this oil, I am still not sure if it actually darkens hair - maybe not for mine but may be for others.

Have you started trying out my sesame oil hair recipes - which I shared in my previous sesame oil article? While you do that, here is more information about the goodness or benefits of this simple, easy to get and dirt cheap oil that works great for scalp and hair growth. Sesame oil really works great to keep your scalp healthy so that your hair naturally grows long at its healthiest speed.

According to Wikipedia, sesame oil is also known as gingely oil or till oil. This oil is an edible vegetable oil that comes from sesame seeds. Other than being popularly used as cooking oil in South India, it is often used to enhance the flavor of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and some Southeast Asian cuisines.

I love using this oil for some of my dishes. I use it to fry eggs, fry rice, stir fry vegetables, drizzle on salads, for soups and much more - it has a pleasant, aromatic and fragrant smell as well as nutritious.

And of course, it works great for my scalp and hair too! It keeps my scalp healthy so that my hair naturally grows at its healthiest speed.

And do you also know that this nutritious oil is used as the carrier or base oil for massages and used to help relieve some skin problems? Sesame oil is popular with Ayurveda treatments too. In fact, this oil has a very long history in cooking and healing.

This oil comes in different color tones. For example, cold-pressed sesame oil is pale yellow. Indian oil (gingely or til oil) is golden while East Asian (what I use for cooking) is like dark brown.

The dark brown oil comes from roasted or toasted sesame seeds. Cold pressed oil (much lighter color tone) comes from raw seeds which are also sold in pharmacies and health shops.

Here are the various benefits or goodness of sesame oil:

Penetrative

This oil penetrates the skin and pores easily. If you do research on therapeutic essential oils, you may learn that not all essential oils are made to be equal or the same. This means that not all essential oils penetrate or can be absorbed by our skin just as easily or deeply. Sesame oil is rich in polyunsaturated fat. This is why it penetrates very well and is popular massage base oil. This oil is popularly used as massage oil especially for the foot (Indian massage) or the scalp. This oil works great for the scalp skin too.

Moisture

From what I learn when I asked around and talked to people, although some are allergic to sesame oil (like a few of my friends are), most skin are tolerant. In fact, this oil has a very long history. It has been used to relieve skin problems like eczema, psoriasis or used as a good, natural moisturizer for dry skin.

Plus, it makes a good natural moisturizer for dry, coarse or brittle hair and hair with split ends. Massaging your scalp with it helps control dryness and flakiness, as well as improves blood circulation to the scalp. This also helps restore the health of your scalp and keep it healthy.

Since this oil penetrates well, its high vitamin E content is easily absorbed by our skin and scalp.

Sunscreen

The US FDA has approved sesame oil as an ingredient for commercial sunscreens. Therefore, as it is effective to protect our skin from harmful UV rays, it also protects and moisture our hair when we are in the sun. This is how carrying my little bottle of sesame oil and water hair spray can be very handy.

Antibacterial and anti-inflammation

This oil, with its antibacterial and anti-inflammation qualities works great for relieving not just skin but scalp or fungal infections. This then helps to relieve hair loss and restores the health of the scalp so that hair grows healthily at its optimum speed.

Relieve Stress

From my own experience and from what I hear very often from others, stress and depression is a common factor that causes hair loss. I remember at the hair treatment salon, my specialist used to advise me to take time to chill out regularly. No matter how busy and stressful my job was, I needed to take time out to rest, relax and chill out. And whenever I feel I was stressed out and fail to do my scalp massages consistently, I see my hair falling a lot more.

Since stress is a common cause of hair loss, sesame oil's cooling properties help relieve stress during scalp massage. Same here, when I feel like 'cooling down or calming down' other than chamomile oil, I would choose sesame oil to do my scalp massage.
