Child Psychology is one of the most common areas of Psychology and it can include subjects like mental, social and emotional disorders. This area of the topic can start in the development of a baby and remain until adolescence. Back in the olden days it was believed that children were simply smaller versions of adults but processed thought in the same way. However it became clear years later that their thought process were entirely different and the Psychology of Children changed forever.

In current times experts appreciate that the topic is unique and at times rather complicated so much so that many psychologists maintain an open mind when it comes down to development. The subject can be extremely opinionated from one expert to another especially as nothing can be proven just dis proven. Some believe that the early experience makes people who they will be, but others believe that the happenings of later life influences who they will become.

There are a lot of factors involved when considering the Psychology of children such as how they are brought up, what they are lead to believe and how they are taught. In a social context the relationships that adults have with children will affect how they think learn and develop. It is not just the parents are guardians that are involved here, other family members, schools and even peer groups will influence them.

From a cultural perspective children can also be affected as this will impact on the values they come to believe and how they learn to live in general. The parents determine what kind of culture their offspring will experience and the rest of the society will influence them also. Depending on the actual culture they could be free to make their own choice once they reach a certain age.

The social class in which the individual is brought up will influence not just who they are but who they will become. The money their parents earn, the house they live in, the type of job their parents have and their education will all contribute to their socioeconomic status. The status will shape their employment and educational opportunities as well as their personal beliefs and values.

The contexts in this topic area can affect how the individual is brought up but one may rectify another. Even if they are brought up in the environment of a lower class family they could still benefit. They may only have access to poor education and health care but their cultural environment may be much greater than an individual living in a higher class household which could even out the negative balance.

There are many other topics in this area of Psychology which include Genetics, Prenatal Development, Social Growth, Personality Development, Language, Gender Roles, plastic jar and Cognitive Development and Sexual development. Genetics are predetermined by science and there is nothing a family can do to change this. Aspects that can be changed are how a mother behaves when she is pregnant and by giving the child the best opportunities they could hope to achieve will eliminate any negative possibilities.

The Psychological aspects of an individual starts when their parents successfully conceive, everything they hear and are exposed to from that moment on will influence the adult that they become. An individual that is behind in development due to neglect will reach their milestones eventually but this could impact their life. There are some conditions that are not down to the individual upbringing like Dyslexia and Autism.
