Mycoplasma will be the smallest prokaryotic organism that could live independently. It exists widely as the name indicated. It can also be among the "normal bacteria" in body of a human. Urethritis symptoms may occur once mycoplasma infection occur in patients , and secondarily to chronic prostatitis, testis and epididymitis, and also may cause obstruction with the vas deferens leading to azoospermia. Mycoplasma also continues to infect seminal tract, seminal vesicle and testis, affecting the standard of sperm and semen and causing male infertility.

How does mycoplasma cause male infertility?
1. Destruction of spermatogenic cells: There are a many spermatogenic cells inside the seminiferous tubules of testis. These spermatogenic cells develop and reproduce in order to create sperm. When mycoplasma enters testicular seminiferous tubules from urethra and prostate, it will destroy spermatogenic cells and earn "spermatogenic factory" produce fake and inferior products, bringing about infertility.
2. Increased rate of sperm malformation: Another feature of infertility is increased rate of sperm malformation brought on by mycoplasma infection. According to clinical observation, sperm malformation rate can often be all the way to 80% such infertile patients.
3. Disturbance of sperm motility: Sperm motility is a vital function of healthy sperm with an important indication whether sperm can conceive, and sperm motility will need to have a certain speed and frequency. Mycoplasma often attaches towards the head and tail of sperm after infecting, that makes the full sperm filled with attachments of numerous sizes, causing inability of sperm to swim and entanglement with one another, then bringing about infertility.
4. The number of sperm with fertility decreased, motility decreased, morphological abnormalities, and a few ones lost a chance to enter and bind to the egg.
5. Neuraminidase manufactured by mycoplasma can interfere the mix of sperm and ovum. This is one of many factors behind infertility due to mycoplasma infection.
6. Mycoplasma urealyticum infection also has common antigens with sperm membrane. Once infected, it may result in immune infertility.

Patient with positive mycoplasma should be treated in time.
