Water coolers are an absolute necessity at home, in office, at community centers, schools, colleges, etc. They provide useful service by purifying and cooling/heating water for people around the clock. It is only natural that an appliance that is used so extensively will eventually break down and stop working for any number of reasons.

But that doesn’t mean that it’s time to get a new water cooler already. Machines aren’t that different from human beings. If you are working too hard without any respites, there will come a time when you will have to stop. If you don’t, your body will make you stop when a break is in order. Machines are similar. If the water cooler is over-worked, it will stop working at some point. But before you discard it, give it a shot and see if it can be repaired. When a water cooler breaks down it could be for any of the following reasons:

Problem with the compressor

If your water cooler has suddenly started dispensing water that is too hot or cold, you need to check the temperature settings. It’s entirely possible that someone has put in the wrong settings and that’s why it’s malfunctioning.

There could also be something wrong with your compressor as well. The compressor is responsible for regulating the water temperature. If that is broken, then it makes sense why your water is the wrong temperature. If the compressor is spoilt, there’s nothing much you can do about it yourself unless you understand such matters. It’s time to call a technician who can replace the compressor for you.

Problem with valves and faucets

Water coolers dispense water in a manner similar to any basic tap. The faucet in a water cooler is programmed to go off once the valve connected to it is turned off too. However, if you notice that the faucet continues leaking water even after you have turned the valve off, then you might be in for some trouble. Usually this occurs when there is a leak in the faucet or a seal could be loose. In this case, contact the customer service of your water cooler manufacturer and get them to send a technician over. In most cases, the technician will come and replace the damaged faucet with a new one.

Problems with water supply

Water coolers may be called coolers but most models can provide hot water too. It’s just a matter of switching the temperature control to hot. So, if you’re wondering why your cooler has suddenly stopped dispensing hot water, it’s time to check the controls and see if the hot water is on. If it’s not, turn the regulator the other way for smooth supply of hot water.

If there is no supply of water at all in your water cooler, it most probably means the reservoir is empty. Depending on the model, fill the tank as per instructions or get a certified technician to do it for you.
